VIPERS' NEST
By Mimi Carpenter
Sometimes when you speak I don't know what to make of you
My tender sensibilities shaken in the wake of you
Desert winds and storms come reeling past in their intensity
My inner mind can't grasp your soul in all its sensitivity
I can't take a step, standing in a vipers' nest
Can't move to right or left, standing in a vipers' nest
The line that joins our souls is stretched so thin and long from you to me
I'm walking with my eyes shut and a gulf of pain in front of me
The canyons howl with the winds that level rocks and scour the land
The waters boil with the tide and snakes that dance at your demand
I can't take a step, standing in a vipers' nest
Can't move to right or left, standing in a vipers' nest
Can't travel east or west, standing in a vipers' nest
Can't sit down or rest, standing in a vipers' nest
I see only you when I close my eyes or open them
I still hear your voice when I shut my ears against the din
I can't see the trees when I'm walking through the desert sands
I can't hear the stars when I'm lost among the forest stands
Can't sit down or rest, standing in a vipers' nest
Can't travel east or west, standing in a vipers' nest
Can't move to right or left, standing in a vipers' nest
I can't take a step, standing in a vipers' nest
Can't take a single step, standing in a vipers' nest
