Trouble Me

By Mimi Herrmann

You just dropped by to say hello
You stick around for longer than you have to
I drop my eyes and look away
I know where this is going and I'm not ready

My mom always said to never trouble trouble
And if anyone is trouble it's you
So I keep pretending I don't know what you're thinking
What I'm thinking is that you could trouble me

I don't really need another cup of coffee
Why's it my hands are shaking as I walk past your door
I just want to see what you're up to
Is all the caffeine why I can't sleep at night

And mom always said to never trouble trouble
If anyone's in trouble it's me
You keep pretending you don't know what I'm thinking
What you're thinking is that you could trouble me

I brought my lunch today as always
But if you ask me I'll go get some food with you
Not that we'll do anything but talk
But we don't mind the excuse to get away
For a while
And say nothing
Unusual
Until we're back
And you text my phone
And tell me
What you'd wished you'd done
What you'd wished I'd done
Yeah

My mom always said to never trouble trouble
If anyone means trouble it's us
We keep pretending we don't know what we're thinking
What I'm thinking is that you could trouble me
Anytime
What I'm thinking is I wish you'd trouble me
