How Did Lothie Dot Com Get Started?

The original version of Lothie Dot Com was pretty much just a bio filled with stats similar to these FAQs, which I kept on my machine at work (Intercon, a company which no longer exists, like so many dot com startups). At some point, all access to personal web sites at Intercon was shut down, not because of content issues, but because of hackers. I was still interested in having a personal web site somewhere but I wasn't sure where. This was in 1994-95.

In 1996, I bought space on what was then Illuminati Online (which now also no longer exists), and for quite a while I experimented with HTML there. I'm not going to claim that my pages were ever, um, graphically beautiful, although for a personal site they were okay. I used IO until I decided to register my own domain in 2000; I worked for an ASP (Application Service Provider) that used ASP (Active Server Pages), and they were fine with hosting my site, so I learned ASP myself and hosted my site there for a few months. Eventually, when we got DSL, I moved it into the house I shared with my then-husband and housed it on our own machines, which is still the case today.
